Computing at Ingleby Mill
Growing up today in an ICT-rich environment means that children need to have opportunities to experience and develop skills that will help them make the most of life. ICT/computing is incorporated into practically every lesson your child participates in at school.
Computing has become an increasingly important part of everyday life and has the potential to transform the lives of all involved in its use. Therefore, each child within the school will have regular and meaningful access to the quality use of ICT to prepare them to be able to use its full range of facilities.
Computing provides a means of enhancing and enriching the learning experience of children and strengthens and supports traditional forms of teaching and learning. It also extends the range of educational opportunities for children.
The teaching and learning of Computing in our school should be both motivating and stimulating. Children will develop knowledge of the subject; learning key skills and experiencing enjoyment for undertaking further work in Computing.
The aims and purposes of teaching Computing at Foundation Stage and Key Stages 1 and 2, which underpin the National Curriculum programme of study, are that Computing teaching should offer opportunities for children to:
- Develop Computing capability, including their knowledge and understanding of the importance of information and of how to select and prepare it;
- Develop their skills in using hardware and software to manipulate information in their processes of problem solving, recording and expressive work;
- Develop their ability to apply their Computing capability and to support their use of language and communication, and their learning in other areas;
- Explore their attitudes towards Computing, its value for themselves, others and society, and their awareness of its advantages and limitations;
- Develop an awareness of the use of Computing/computers in everyday life/workplace.
ICT is incorporated into practically every lesson your child participates in at school.
VALUES – Across all areas of learning we value:
Happiness – when we enjoy what we are doing, we learn at our best
Confidence – when we have confidence, we will always ‘have a go’
Creativity – when our creativity is developed, we can think and learn in imaginative ways
Perseverance – when we are encouraged to keep going, even when the going gets tough, we develop resilience, positive outlooks and self-belief
Respect – when we are respectful, we see things through the eyes of others
