Life Lessons (PSHE & RHE)

Life Lessons at Ingleby Mill

At Ingleby Mill, Life Lessons is the term we use with our children to cover the PSHE and RHE curriculum. Our Life Lessons will help our children navigate life during their time at Ingleby Mill and beyond. It is important that we give them the information and tools to make informed decisions and help steer their life journey in the right direction.

Growing up in the twenty-first century is undoubtably exciting but also full of challenges and hurdles that children will need to tackle in order to move forward in life. We believe it is important to give our children experiences that will help them develop aspirations, set personal goals and develop their individual values.

Using the Action for Happiness – 10 Keys to Happier Living model, we have created a broad set of values to explore throughout both KS1 and KS2. Together they spell “GREAT DREAM”.

The remaining four keys — Giving (charity events), Exercising (PE curriculum and Health and Fitness Week), Trying Out (Bright Futures Week and Robinwood) and Direction (school life expectations) — are covered through dedicated events and activities.

Relationships and Health Education

To embrace the challenges of creating a happy and successful adult life, pupils need knowledge that will enable them to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships and to build their self-efficacy. High quality, evidence-based and age-appropriate teaching of these subjects can help prepare pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.
