Computing at Ingleby Mill

Growing up today in an ICT-rich environment means that children need to have opportunities to experience and develop skills that will help them make the most of life. Computing is incorporated into practically every lesson your child participates in at school.

Computing has become an increasingly important part of everyday life and has the potential to transform the lives of all involved in its use. Therefore, each child within the school will have regular and meaningful access to quality use of ICT, preparing them to use its full range of facilities. Computing extends the range of educational opportunities for children and supports traditional forms of teaching and learning.

The aims of teaching Computing at Foundation Stage and Key Stages 1 and 2 are that children should:

  • Develop Computing capability, including knowledge and understanding of the importance of information and how to select and prepare it
  • Develop skills in using hardware and software to manipulate information in processes of problem solving, recording and expressive work
  • Develop their ability to apply Computing capability to support learning in other areas
  • Explore their attitudes towards Computing, its value for themselves, others and society, and awareness of its advantages and limitations
  • Develop an awareness of the use of Computing in everyday life and the workplace
